Record numbers of Irish are moving Down Under.

12 September 2008

In an eight month period from July 2007 and March 2008 over twelve and a half thousand Irish people applied successfully for a Working Holiday Maker visa.

"Interest in the WHM scheme has grown every year for the past five years" said a government spokesman." We expect this trend to continue for the forseeable future".

The figures also revealed an increase in skilled professionals deciding to leave Ireland for the lure of Australian life.

Experts put the rise in immigration down to disillusionment with life at home in Ireland caused by the ongoing credit crunch.  As the economy worsens, the number deciding to make the move down under is expected to continue to rise, particuarly those who work in the construction industry, which is currently undergoing massive growth in  many parts of Australia.
